Travel Agogity

I love to travel.
To places only a smidgen of people have seen, spots with hidden curiosities waiting to surprise me, renowned and mesmerizing locales.

They're places I've never seen—
with my eyes, that is.

You see, I travel through the grand adventures of others. Sure, I'd love to be a genuine adventurer, but since that's not an option, traveling vicariously is one of my favorite hobbies.

I have a splendid collection of old travel books hailing from the early 1900's. I love reading of people's travel experiences. I revel in the details, in the intriguing things I didn't know.

So I was happily surprised when I discovered a writer friend—Irene Hastings—had penned a tome of her experiences living in Italy!

I LOVED IRENE'S DANCING ON GRAPES!

As I read, I felt a great longing to tell Irene how much I loved her book, so halfway through, I said to her in an email—  "I didn't expect to experience such a gamut of feelings as I accompanied you on your adventures, but your story is taking me on such a deep, rich, fascinating journey that I feel so many things!"

THANKS IRENE!

Irene and I at The League of Utah
Writers Conference last September.

AND!

I RELISH MEETING BLOGGERS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES—WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!

So Adventure away!
And remember—

"Years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore. Dream. Discover."

I went to Italy once and loved it, so I would probably like this book. Thanks for suggesting it. I like the Mark Twain quote, too. Happy travels, vicarious or otherwise!

Love that I can pick up a book and go on an adventure!
I wonder, did Mark Twain ever say anything that wasn't awesome?

That's the great thing about reading, is that I get to go on these great adventures.

I agree with you. Books take me to sites I'll never have a chance to visit, magical places. And no passport needed! How awesome is that!!

That's such a great quote by Mark Twain. Makes me really think. "You will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do."

I've never really travelled, but I'm young to I'll a lot of opportunities to in the future.

Also, you happen to be the winner of Just So Stories which my dad is giving away as a part of his guest post over at Writing Fire! :) Can you contact me at nick_hight [at] msn [dot] com with your shipping address so that we can send you the book? Thanks, and congratulations :)
