The Writing Truck

I FELL OFF THE WAGON.

Or, more precisely, the back of the truck.

Look at this truck! Isn't it incredible? It's the great old farm truck that's been keeping me company at my summer writing spot. It sits there all friendly-like just letting me do my writing thing.

I haven't been there for about three weeks. I slacked off on my writing stuff to go on vacation and enjoy the rest of summer break. And it was good, so good, to have a little vacation from my head.

But I do miss my truck friend in the grassy field by the tree by the pond. Hey, that reminds me of that song I used to sing when I was a kid -
And on that eye there was an eyelash, the prettiest little eyelash you ever did see. Oh, the eye on the bird and the bird in the nest and the nest on the branch and the branch on the tree and the tree in hole and the hole in the ground and the green grass growin' all around, all around, and the green grass growin' all around.

Whoa, what a marvelous tangent!

So what I've been trying to tell you is that I fell off the writing truck for a while, but I'm back! Yesterday I worked on my daily writing goal in my YA Fantasy book- my goal for Mon thru Fri that is. Saturdays are for skipping ideas through my head, researching, and absorbing the fascinating stuff all around me to use in my story while I hang out with my family.

SO WELCOME ME BACK, YOU GREAT RED TRUCK, CUZ I’M READY TO WRITE AND ROLL!

Hey, that gets me thinking. That red truck could be used in a thousand great tales. I could fall off in another dimension or maybe while I'm snoring in the back, the truck suddenly takes off and I find myself in the middle of a helicopter police chase (I don't snore by the way, just so you know), or there's some message hidden in the truck that's been there for 70 years. What do you think? Shoot me your ideas for how the red truck could infiltrate a book.

START YOUR BRAIN ENGINES!
REV ‘EM UP!
AND YOU’RE OFF!

Maybe it's a magical truck, with a mind all of it's own. Is it evil or nice? I don't know, but it could be fun!

You are so imaginative and funny! I could see that truck as a place to stash stolen jewels from a sultan's palace. :P

I've fallen off the truck myself this summer and haven't gotten squat done in the way of new writing. I've finally gotten back to some editing that needed to be done, and I'm gearing up to start a new book.

We all need to take a breather--then we appreciate the old truck more when we visit it again!

What a marvelous old truck. Perhaps you might fall asleep in the cab and wake up in another decade, or perhaps it exists as a gateway between this universe and many parallel ones? There are so many possibilities.

I like to write outside too when the wereather is nice. Only in the garden, mind, but still, it's much nicer than being cooped up in the house.

Thanks so much for your comments on my pitches for my WIP. I'm not really as organised as that makes me seem - I was taking a break from a difficult chapter and thought I'd try and see what I could make of it. As I said, it definitely needs more work, but I will keep your helpful comments in mind when I revise it.

The 'wereather' is of course a French expression for...well...ok it was a typo :)

Hey, nice to meet you through the Campaign. Love that truck. I always see people driving around in old red pickups that they've refurbished and I get a little envious.

Hello, fellow campaigner.

Yep, you've got to get right back up on that truck and write every day.

LOL! Forever hereafter when I think about slacking off I'm going to picture that writing truck. Awesome.

So happy to meet you Brenda, and excited about getting to know you better through the campaign. =)

Hi brenda,
I'm a fellow campaigner and it may just be the romantic in me(although that's not one of the groups I'm in) but i think that truck is clearly the rondevous spot for two young lovers from neighboring farms.

Hey fellow campaigner, nice to meet you! I agree, that truck could be used as the springboard for lots of great ideas. Great post, and best of luck with your writing goals :)

Somebody could be murdered and thrown in the back of that truck. The driver could find out at the end of his journey that he's been shunting a body around.

Nice to meet you! And I don't think about murder all the time. Promise.

Thanks for stopping by my blog (via Nadine, I think?) I'm getting back on the truck myself. That's what this summer and the Platform-Building Campaign are about for me.

Glad to hear your back on the writing truck! Sometimes you have to climb off for awhile and explore the grassy field so you can bring something back.
