Way Off Base Land

Things aren't always as they seem. I've gotta tell you, I've done a lot of double takes, had my heart stop, had it speed up too. Sheesh, that judging stuff has landed me in Way-Off-Base-Land many a times.

Take for instance the jolt of lightning moment when I discovered an alarming fact about REESES PIECES. Prepare yourself. Maybe you better sit down—no, definitely sit down. Hurry, quick. Believe me, it's for your own good—you might faint dead away.

Alrighty now. Here's the shocker—Oh wait, first I'd like to bring to your attention my photo of three bags of Reeses Pieces in various stages of gobbled-up-ness I found in my closet. Guess I forgot about a couple of 'em when I opened the new bag.

Oh my, Okay, I'm just gonna say it fast—
ReesesPiecesdon'thaveanychocolateinthem!
Too fast you say? Alright. Slowing down. Hold on tight to something—
Reeses Pieces don't have any chocolate in them!
None, Nada, Zip, Zilch!

I know, I know. Don't hyperventilate! I had no idea all this time! I thought they were chocolate and peanut butter like Reeses Peanut Butter Cups! But no, they only have a candy shell that contains zero specs of chocolate! So now I have to work really hard to banish that sorrowful little fact from my mind when I eat them. Outrageously hard, I tell you. And I can't enjoy them if I slip and let myself remember it.
Please, please don't be angry at me for telling you. I was just bursting to tell someone about my terrible discovery.

AND NOW TO REINFORCE MY STARTLING PRESENTATION, HERE'S A VIDEO BY JULIAN SMITH ABOUT HOW THINGS JUST MAY NOT BE WHAT THEY SEEM.

ALSO, CHECK OUT AMY LUNDERMAN'S GREAT BLOG POST WWW WEDNESDAYS & THE GHOST OF CIRCUS PASTS FOR MORE OF THINGS NOT BEING HOW THEY SEEM.

HAVE A SUPER WEEKEND EVERYONE! AND WATCH OUT FOR STEPPING PAST THE NO TRESPASSING SIGN INTO WAY-OFF-BASE-LAND BECAUSE YOU JUST MIGHT BE WIGGLING YOUR TOES IN QUICKSAND!

How funny! LOL, I'm stunned about Reeses Pieces. One of my favorite candies! I can eat a whole bag at once if I'm not careful.

Hope you have a great weekend too! :)

Oh wow, I had no idea that there wasn't chocolate in reeses pieces! That's just crazy business.

Thank you for the shout out and have a great weekend too! :)

When that candy (too devastated to say the name) first came out, I quickly became an addict. So circa age 12, I would lie on my white canopy bed, eat bag after bag of that candy, and read book after book in The Black Stallion series. Fond, fond memories, all tainted now that I know the truth.

Ok, so you're a Julian fan, too. One more thing we have in common! (Shakes head in disbelief.)

That video was hilarious! I've never seen that one before. Julian Smith is so funny.
I never thought Reeses Pieces had chocolate in them. Is that weird? I just thought they were peanut butter. I guess I was right! :D

That makes so hungry for some,I do love chocolate, but I think I'd actually prefer them sans chocolate anyways.
I love Julian Smith's videos (video doesn't sound right, it's too 90's or something, is there a better word for that?) they're hilarious.

A Humongous thanks to all of you for your super comments!

BETSY - Wahoo! Thanks! I'm so glad!

JULIE - I know, stunned. That's a great word for it! They're one of my favorites too! And yeah, gobbling up a bag would be far too easy!

AMY - Ha, ha! I love your crazy business statement - it made me laugh! And it's SO true! And you're way welcome for the shout out - it fits right in with my post!

MICHELLE - Ah, I can just picture you at 12 munching Reeses Pieces and reading - what an wonderful vignette! So sorry I put a screech on it with my dastardly news! Oh, you must forgive me, you must! I would never forgive myself if you didn't!
Hey, I found out about Julian because my kids were laughing at some crazy guy's videos on youtube. When I finally went over to see what they were always laughing at, I saw how ridiculous and funny he is! This one really caught me off guard - I wasn't expecting that ending!
It's incredibly awesome that we have so much in common! Someday we'll have to meet! Maybe when you become famous from your book your agent has, you'll come on tour here. Hey, I can always hope and wish!

CHANTELE - Yeah, Julian has the knack doesn't he?! Funny, crazy!
My daughter was telling me that of course Reeses Pieces don't have chocolate - the inside in peanut butter and the outside is a candy shell. But I never doubted that the shell had chocolate! It tricked a lot of people! I'm so glad I'm not the only one! It's one of those things I just took for granted - Reeses=Chocolate! I'm so happy for you that you never have to experience the devastation I did since you already knew the appalling fact!

Hey Danica commented AFTER I commented! Now this makes me look like I ignored her! Ah, Blogger, what have you done?! You have made me out as a villainous villian, but I shall have the last word!

DANICA - Prefer them without chocolate? Prefer them without CHOCOLATE?! PREFER THEM WITHOUT CHOCOLATE?!!!!!! You must be mad, girl! But I'll let it slide this time, if you make me some of your devinely delicious crepes soonish.
And you made me laugh when you said the word video doesn't sound right, like it's too 90's! Let's think up our own word!

I am ashamed to admit I havent eaten Reece's Pieces since I was like 7 and E.T. had just come out. Am I wierd? Maybe it's time. Chocolate or no chocolate.

Brenda Sills said...

JESSIE - You poor deprived soul! Run out and snag you some today! They're delish- do you remember, do you? Go refresh your memory & munch some ASAP! Thanks for commenting! :D

Okay - that was shocking, but it won't ruin me for eating them because I love peanut butter too. And I loved the Julian Smith video; the kids and I love him!
Thanks for the reminder. I hate it when I find myself in Way-off-base-land. :)

Yeah, I've known about the Reeces thing for a while now, but I didn't want to crush anyone.

Way to go, Brenda. The cat...rrrrearrrr...is out of the bag.

I was worried about your sense of humor all the way to the end of the clip. What a scream.

Brenda Sills said...

KIMBERLY - Yeah, that blasted land is atrocious! And I'm so glad you survived the shock - I always knew you were strong!

LESLI - Oh my word! I can't believe you're so nice and I'm so mean! Ah, you kept the crush-the-people secret and I blabbed! Arrgrgrfrr, how will I ever live with myself?!
Shwew! I'm soooooo glad I redeemed myself at the end of the video - I was really sweating it there!
